Persistence Pays Off

When KFI/Los Angeles assignment editor and avid bicyclist Michael Clarke made a trip to his local supermarket recently, as usual he rode his bike and left it locked outside the store. Upon returning, he found that his expensive, custom-made bike had been stolen, lock and all. After 10 days of searching and investigating the theft on his own, Clarke found his stolen bike listed for sale on Craig’s List. He called the Los Angeles Police Department which decided to set up a sting operation, and also gave KFI reporter Steve Gregory permission to ride-along as a witness. After arranging a meet with the sellers, LAPD detectives arrested two young men who showed up with the bike, and a third suspect who was parked nearby acting as a spotter and getaway car driver. A very happy Clarke (pictured) was reunited with his beloved bike, and Gregory got himself another great story to file about a crime victim who wouldn’t give up, investigating his own case and coordinating with local cops to catch the criminals red-handed.

Here’s the ad that started it all…..After his bike was stolen, Michael Clarke checked Craig’s List everyday for 10 days before finding this (The numbers are X’d out to protect identity)
